Journey with Jeska

Wellbeing
This page expresses what I like to do to enforce health habits to contribute to a positive state of mind and overall wellbeing. I hope these guide you if you're unsure of what exactly there is to do or would like to try something new to enhance your wellbeing.

The beach
As it is clearly expressed all over my socials, I am a beach baby! I truly believe the beach is the one place that makes me feel at home. Whenever I am emotionally stressed out or having a bad day I will try visit the beach to have a swim and just relax there by laying by the waves. Hearing them crash and listening to nature flutter truly can ease your mind. Personally I try visit the beach once a week!

Music numbing
It is quite often that I will be lying in my room just listening to music without a single thought. This allows myself to regenerate when I am feeling overwhelmed and essentially sluggish for the day. As a DJ I have a wide genre selection, so depending on my mood dictates what playlist I will be listening too.

Passion projects
Even now and then I will try to ensure I get creative with a passion project. For instance, Journey with Jeska is the latest one. It involves engaging in something that you feel warm and fuzzy about. Whether that is something small like creating a vision board, piece of artwork or an entire blog like myself. It is a moment in time where you can act to fill up your cup emotionally, take a breathe and be grateful for what you have and can possibly offer towards yourself or others to better their lives and wellbeing.

Morning runs
Personally I have found that if I start my mornings actively such as heading out for a run, I feel 10x better during the day. By being active I tend not to feel sluggish later on, but energised and motivated. Some days when I have long morning runs scheduled I partocratic and genially daunt them... so in these cases I just make sure that I get up and complete something, even if it is as little as 500m-1km. Overtime I noticed this becomes easier and less daunting when your routine is set.

Gym nights
In regarding to completing work outs within a gym setting, I feel best when I attend late at night when the gym is practically empty. Being a DJ and little bit of a raver, I seem to be a night owl and find I am practically nocturnal and most naturally energetic late at night. Additionally, being in a less crowded gym allows you to muck around, for instance I will start grooving in between sets as if no one was there. This took me a while but the judgement aspect slowly has faded which truly is an amazing feeling when you are being you.

Mind mapping
I tend to thrive off organisation which led me to mind mapping. I now mind maps everything, from goals and ideas to sub-headed to-do-lists... I find that mind mapping allows you to essentially blur out your thoughts into categories. When mind mapping it makes me feel like a weight is lifted off my chest because I can breakdown elements into smaller components to realise things aren't as big and challenging or overwhelming as they may initially seem.

Exploring hobbies
One thing I tend to always do is find new hobbies which keep me extremely busy, but at the same time bring laughter and growth into my life. For instance, I started going down to the Golf driving range with my friend which led me to the realisation that Golf acts as a mental outlet for myself. Now regularly I will go down for a hit with my headphones on and just enjoy the moment. The same is with wakeboarding and other hobbies. At the start I feel you can easily get frustrated with learning but this is where the laughter and growth comes into play and conquers if you let it. I strongly recommend!

Nights in
Over the last year this is one aspect that I have had minimal at, and when I say minimal I mean a handful at most in regards to the weekends. I think depending on circumstances you are going through, this will always dictate the amount you head out with friends as possible distractions or in my case its become apart of my DJ career which I explore within the 4.0 Networking page. I found this can be very exhausting as much as I loved it, and now choose to take a step back when I can to sit silently at home and enjoy my own company for personal growth. In doing this, I have discovered quite a lot which can be a learning curve.

Networking
Now to play devils advocate, networking meaning heading out with friends to fulfill the social aspect of your wellbeing is also critical. The main piece of advance that I can give you, is to try socially engage with your friends in different ways. For instance, going to a morning dip club at 5am on a Wednesday or going to the Golf range on a Friday night is still networking even though you may not head out into the city on the Saturday night. It really is a a balance to which only you can decide and know what feels right depending on your energy levels and life circumstances.

Challenging comfort
Challenging comfort ties closely with exploring hobbies and networking. Essentially it is the 'allowing yourself to be a beginner' theory (credit to who ever expressed this because it truly is a game changer). Once you understand and are comfortable with the idea that everyone starts somewhere you tend to feel less pressure and judgement towards yourself/others. This can be a slow burner but truly this has allowed me personally to open up and experiences things I never thought would be possible in a lifetime.

Self-exploration
This one is focusing on self-discovery. I think a lot of us picture ourself with a certain front or within a certain criteria which can lead to false interpretations of ourselves. For instance a couple of years ago after my long term relationship, I was anxious to leave the house and be seen walking around the shops or eating out solo. Fast forward to today and I regularly head to the beach, shops, golf, restaurants, movies, events and more by myself which is insane to me when I think about the confidence I have built. What I've learnt is it just takes time.

Travelling
This is something I unfortunately have not feel in love with until the recent months. But now I can genuinely say I have the travel bug with over 3 trips booked this year! Travelling can be daunting especially when heading around solo but it leads to a lot more self-exploration and discovery which you will look back upon in months and years to come and be forever grateful for those learning moments and curve balls you once faced. Not to mention the people you meet, a handful of my best friends are people I have met travelling!
